Thrifty car hire was founded in 1958. Around 30 years after in 1987 the business became public as it decided to sell shares. American car company Chrysler soon after it became public bought it and merged it with Dollar rent a car. As recently as November 2012, Thrifty and Dollar rent a car where both purchased by Hertz.

Their vast experience with changes of ownerships has done well for the company as its one of the leading brands within the Uk. We collected our car from Thrifty at Manchester Airport on 28th Feb after telephoning them upon retrieving our luggage and the pick up was very quick.

The staff there were very friendly and efficient and although we had ordered a Mondeo we had a Passat Estate (diesel as requested) which was a nice surprise!

Again, on returning the car it was so easy and indeed we were dropped off at the terminal doors in the same car!

We would thoroughly recommend Thrifty and yourselves to anyone booking car hire, and even though we have already booked with Europacar , via yourselves, for May, would indeed like to use Thrifty again.

So all in all We would give you and Thrifty 5 out of 5.

Índigo saved my bacon!

It was such a relief to hear about Indigo, I had a car hire booking with another company, who only took credit cards and charged an insane security deposit. Do I need to pass a credit check if using my debit card to hire?

If renting a car in the UK and you are a UK resident most of the large multinational suppliers will carry out an electronic address check to ensure you have strong enough links to the address provided. However most of the suppliers with the exception of 1 or 2, still carry out the same checks so not unique to when you need to hire via a debit card. Key indicator are if you are named on the Electoral Register and named on the council tax bill.

When renting a car overseas as an inbound client our suppliers do not carry out any checks.

Do I need to leave a deposit if hiring with a debit card?

Most suppliers do require a security deposit when renting a car, in the UK we have a range of options. The best value suppliers would request a £200.00 – £300.00 deposit. However we do have selected locations where our supplier does not require any deposit, so a full zero deposit.

In Europe we have options where you can just leave a fuel deposit of 110 EUR, and there is no mandatory requirement to take the Super Cover as this can be the case with some of the smaller budget suppliers.
