- Provide your Passport
- The debit card must be in your name

When you are looking to hire a car with a debit card in Portugal then there are a few requirements that you need to keep in mind, to hire with a debit card here’s what you should consider:
- You will need a full driving licence
- Any points on your licence may make hiring more complicated
- You will need to have the funds for the deposit available on the card to be taken & returned upon the return of the vehicle
- You will need to show your passport to the rental office
- Major debit cards are accepted, including but not limited too Visa, Mastercard, Lloyds & Hsbc.

Are There Restrictions To Car Hire Without A Credit Card?
In terms of the debit card yes there are restrictions, which will determine whether you will be able to hire with a debit card through us or not. If you don’t meet the restrictions we may have a slim chance of still being able to organise you something so please call us directly.
An example of one of the restrictions is that the name on the card must match the name on the drivers licence. The other restrictions may vary depending on location and the supplier. Hiring with a debit card will slightly limit the choice of vehicles you have available to you, however there are still several companies in Portugal that allow this type of rental so you still get a good choice of vehicles. What Debit Cards Can You Accept In Portugal?
Unfortunately not all debit cards are accepted as some can be more complex than others, so there are a few restrictions when it comes to the types of credit cards you can use, here is typically what we can accept:

Will Car Hire Without A Credit Card Cost Me More?
Technically speaking, no it won’t. You can however end up paying more because there’s less competition. As you can see there is only a single rental company of the examples we gave so in this scenario if you could only hire with a debit card you would have to pay their price, which may not be the cheapest overall. Having a credit card will leave you with more options and allow you to go with the cheapest price.
