Can I rent a car for someone else to drive?

Renting a car for someone else is a rather tricky subject but can someone else pay for your rental car? The definitive answer to this question is yes you can rent a car for someone else in regards to paying for their car rental. This can only be done in selected locations within the UK and Spain so if you want to know about a 3rd party payment then please call us to find out all the details.

How do I pay for someone else?

You can pay for someone else by arriving with them to pick up the car, you must have a valid UK driving licence in order to be able to do this. Another thing you will be required to do is fill out a form in order for it to be accepted, make sure you read through the form and fully understand it before signing! This is for the locations within the Uk.

The question we often get is can I use my credit card to rent a car for someone else? Yes, this is possible and in fact we unfortunately in Spain only accept the use of credit cards in this situation. If you have a credit card then you have the ability to rent a car for someone else to pick up.

We can offer this third party payment offer to those who have either a credit or a debit card so given that you are in the selected location then we can offer it to you no matter the circumstance.

                Why is this useful?

This is useful if you don’t have enough funds on your account or if your card has been blocked for some reason or another. It’s also useful if you are travelling with a partner that doesn’t want to drive but can yet still make the payment for you.

                What you Can’T do!

Another common question is can someone else drive your rental car? This is often confused with third party payment but this is completely different. If you hire out the car pick it up yourself and then give it to someone unless they are and additional driver you are Not allowed to do this. You are however allowed to add them like previously mentioned as an additional driver which you can see more detail here.

Ok, so how do I get this 3rd party payment deal?

To get this deal you must call us as we need to arrange it with a specific supplier, if you go ahead and book online then we can’t ensure that you will get the right supplier so you may be stuck unable to do this especially because it’s at extremely limited locations within the Uk.

Call us on +44 (0)113 880 0748 or email us at [email protected] and we will be ready waiting for your call.

Do I need to pass a credit check if using my debit card to hire?

If renting a car in the UK and you are a UK resident most of the large multinational suppliers will carry out an electronic address check to ensure you have strong enough links to the address provided. However most of the suppliers with the exception of 1 or 2, still carry out the same checks so not unique to when you need to hire via a debit card. Key indicator are if you are named on the Electoral Register and named on the council tax bill.

When renting a car overseas as an inbound client our suppliers do not carry out any checks.

Do I need to leave a deposit if hiring with a debit card?

Most suppliers do require a security deposit when renting a car, in the UK we have a range of options. The best value suppliers would request a £200.00 – £300.00 deposit. However we do have selected locations where our supplier does not require any deposit, so a full zero deposit.

In Europe we have options where you can just leave a fuel deposit of 110 EUR, and there is no mandatory requirement to take the Super Cover as this can be the case with some of the smaller budget suppliers.
