Geilo
Located in the centre of Hol within Norway the area has around 2300 inhabitants, the resort is one of the largest in the country as well as being one of the first ski resorts built. It’s also famous for having some of the most expensive and luxurious holiday cabins in the whole of Norway. Geilo is home to numerous small skiing centres that make up the resort and it includes several slopes its suitable for more advanced skiers but there are also ski schools for the beginners. Some other popular winter sport options include Alpine skiing, cross country, telemarking, snowboarding, dog sledging, toboggan and ski orienteering.
Oslo Winter Park
With 18 slopes and 11 lifts, Oslo Winter Park is smaller than some other Norwegian ski resorts, but nevertheless offers good skiing only 20 minutes from Oslo city centre. The World Snowboarding Championships (Wsc) were held here in February 2012.
Myrkdalen
Situated 25 kilometres from Voss, Myrkdalen is a large ski resort with 25 lifts and a plethora of activities for children and adults alike. There is a ski bus service in weekends and during holidays, bringing you from the centre of Voss and right to the resort’s doorstep. If you don’t ski, there are other activities available, or you can learn to ski with the resort’s own ski school. Guided tours and cross-country skiing is also available.
Kongsberg
Just over an hour’s drive from Oslo, Kongsberg is a modern ski resort with a mixture of easy, medium and more challenging slopes. These are not among the longest you will find in Norway, but they nevertheless offer good skiing. Kongsberg also has a slalom hill for competition, a terrain park and a separate slope and lift for children.
Hafjell
As the site for the giant slalom and slalom events during the 1994 Lillehammer Olympics, Hafjell, located 15 kilometres from Lillehammer, offers cool skiing. Take the gondola to the top and choose between many long cruisers – the resort has 44 kilometres of slopes divided over 31 runs.
