Are you under the age of 25? You may have already discovered how hard it is to get your hands on a hired vehicle as most companies have insurance restrictions that don’t allow them to give their cars out to those considered young drivers. This can be really problematic as just like anyone else young drivers may need to get a vehicle, so we looked at this and decided to attempt to try and make our customers happy and negotiate an offer for young driver car hire at Sheffield.

We looked at all the rental companies in the area and contacted them individually trying to find out if we could get some kind of deal with any of them. If you are under 23 then usually you wouldn’t be able to hire a car, however we have organised a deal that means from the age of 21 you can hire given that you have held your licence for a year prior to doing so. You will however be subject to a young driver additional daily fee but we will try and get you the best overall price with all the optional extra included.

23 Or Over?

You’re in for a treat if you are 23 or over, we have managed to arrange a fantastic offer for you one that we didn’t expect to be gifted with. We can offer those who are 23 or 24 car hire with just a small young driver additional fee. That will save you a ton of money as often the additional fee exceeds the cost of the rental.

What are the Young Drivers fee for car hire in Sheffield?

It depends on the drivers age, but the current surcharge at the time of writing this (March 2025) is £25 extra per day for a driver is is aged 23 or 24, and £40 per day if the driver is 21 or 22.

If I am under 25 how long do you have to held my license for?

Generally speaking the amount of time you need to have held a full license for is 2 years, there is however some wriggle room with this via our insurers, so if you are not quite at the 2 year mark currently it is worth reaching out to our reservations team and seeing if we can still help.

How old do new drivers need to be in Sheffield?

This rule is fixed and there is no movement, the minimum age if you are a new license holder in Sheffield is 25.

Driver who have held their license for less than 12 months and are under 25 cannot hire unfortunately.

Can I add a 2nd driver who is under 25?

Yes you can do, however that driver would be subject to the young drivers fee, however the cost is minimalized as the additional driver is free of charge, thus saving in the region of £12 per day.

Does a Young Driver need a credit card to rent a car in Sheffield?

The same rules apply as does to hirers who are over 25, a visa or master card debit card is perfectly acceptable to hire the vehicle.

Our security deposit from our Sheffield office sits at just £100, held on collection of your car and then released when the vehicle is returned.

Do I require any additional ID when renting as a young driver?

ID requirements are very straight forward, 2 proof of address are required upon collection of the vehicle, proof of address can be shown in electronic format.

We can also offer a remote online check-in service so documents do not need to be presented on arrival.

Easiest Car Hire Ever

Was looking to rent a car for a week but struggled due to not having a credit card. My friend recommended indigo as there one of the only companies that accept debit cards. Connor was amazing and arranged everything for me with in minutes. No extra charges for not having a credit card like other companies or need for proof of payslips ects. Such a easy process. Do I need to pass a credit check if using my debit card to hire?

If renting a car in the UK and you are a UK resident most of the large multinational suppliers will carry out an electronic address check to ensure you have strong enough links to the address provided. However most of the suppliers with the exception of 1 or 2, still carry out the same checks so not unique to when you need to hire via a debit card. Key indicator are if you are named on the Electoral Register and named on the council tax bill.

When renting a car overseas as an inbound client our suppliers do not carry out any checks.

Do I need to leave a deposit if hiring with a debit card?

Most suppliers do require a security deposit when renting a car, in the UK we have a range of options. The best value suppliers would request a £200.00 – £300.00 deposit. However we do have selected locations where our supplier does not require any deposit, so a full zero deposit.

In Europe we have options where you can just leave a fuel deposit of 110 EUR, and there is no mandatory requirement to take the Super Cover as this can be the case with some of the smaller budget suppliers.
