Doing contract work in London or taking an extended holiday in England’s capital? Booking long-term car rental could be the perfect way of getting around the city. Here’s everything you need to know about how the process works.

How Does Long-Term Car Hire in London Work?

In a way, London long-term car hire is self-descriptive. You simply rent a car in London for an extended period of time, typically at least a month.

When you organise a long-term rental car in London, everything you need is included within the price, such as breakdown cover and insurance. So, you can drive around the city worry-free.

To begin with, you simply pay one monthly fee. However, if you book the vehicle for even longer (say six months or more), you may receive a lower rate than if you instead rent on a month-by-month basis.

You can pick the car up at a location in London, drive it around wherever you wish (including other parts of the country) and then return it to the same location at the end of the hire period.

What are the Advantages of Long-Term Car Rental in London?

Long-term car rental in London comes with several advantages and benefits, such as:

    • You can rent for an extended period of time at a fixed monthly cost
    • Insurance and breakdown cover are included, so you can drive stress-free
    • The car won’t depreciate in value
    • You don’t need to sign a complicated contract with heavy penalty fees for things like excess mileage

Why is Long-Term Car Rental in London So Popular?

Long-term car hire in London is popular because it suits so many different purposes and requirements.

Firstly, the service is particularly popular with people who want to hire a car for an unknown period of time. This is because the rental can be extended on a month-to-month basis and there is no need to commit to a long-term deal, like there is sometimes with leasing.

In addition to this, long-term car hire in London is also suitable for those who are visiting the city for extended periods, such as those taking on contract-based work and seasonal work, or with those who are taking a lengthy holiday.

Finally, London long-term car hire is also useful if your car has broken down and needs to be repaired. This is because it means you’re not left without a vehicle and you don’t need to rush to the garage if they need to source specialist parts to get you back on the road again.

Do I need to pass a credit check if using my debit card to hire?

If renting a car in the UK and you are a UK resident most of the large multinational suppliers will carry out an electronic address check to ensure you have strong enough links to the address provided. However most of the suppliers with the exception of 1 or 2, still carry out the same checks so not unique to when you need to hire via a debit card. Key indicator are if you are named on the Electoral Register and named on the council tax bill.

When renting a car overseas as an inbound client our suppliers do not carry out any checks.

Do I need to leave a deposit if hiring with a debit card?

Most suppliers do require a security deposit when renting a car, in the UK we have a range of options. The best value suppliers would request a £200.00 – £300.00 deposit. However we do have selected locations where our supplier does not require any deposit, so a full zero deposit.

In Europe we have options where you can just leave a fuel deposit of 110 EUR, and there is no mandatory requirement to take the Super Cover as this can be the case with some of the smaller budget suppliers.
