When Should I Book My Car Hire?

When Is The Best Time To Book Car Hire?

This is a question we often get asked by our customers, and if we are honest we cannot give you a firm answer. But what we can do is give you our advice based on what we are seeing with how the suppliers are placing pricing and what has happened with previous years.

What we would advise is to book a rental as soon as you have firm dates, there is no point booking a car with approximate dates / times, reason we advise this is simply if  you then need to amend to the correct dates any amendments are subject to the live rental rates, so essentially your booking will be cancelled free of charge and rebooked which would mean the rates change if between the 2 bookings the prices have updated.

Making sure you place your booking for the correct dates and times and making sure if the car is arranged for an airport location you include flight numbers is really helpful and avoids any issues.

Once you have your rental booked, do not worry if you see closer to the pick up date the prices have decreased we will be more than happy to modify your reservation so you can take advantage of the lower price. This is something we always tell our customers, so booking in advance with the option to have a price review closer to the pick up date is simply a no brainer!

Leaving booking your rental to the last minute does generally mean the rates are higher, this is due to decrease in availability which then pushes the rental prices up. This simply is a good example of the supply and demand theory, which means if you need to hire over a busy period such as the children’s school holidays or the festive period you will see the rental rates increase s0 100% suggest booking early.

Do I need to pass a credit check if using my debit card to hire?

If renting a car in the UK and you are a UK resident most of the large multinational suppliers will carry out an electronic address check to ensure you have strong enough links to the address provided. However most of the suppliers with the exception of 1 or 2, still carry out the same checks so not unique to when you need to hire via a debit card. Key indicator are if you are named on the Electoral Register and named on the council tax bill.

When renting a car overseas as an inbound client our suppliers do not carry out any checks.

Do I need to leave a deposit if hiring with a debit card?

Most suppliers do require a security deposit when renting a car, in the UK we have a range of options. The best value suppliers would request a £200.00 – £300.00 deposit. However we do have selected locations where our supplier does not require any deposit, so a full zero deposit.

In Europe we have options where you can just leave a fuel deposit of 110 EUR, and there is no mandatory requirement to take the Super Cover as this can be the case with some of the smaller budget suppliers.
