We get this question fairly often from either Chinese customer or UK people living in China who have had to change over their licence. There are two issue with this, firstly when you hire a car in the UK your licence must either be from the Eu or be written in English in order for the rental companies to be able to hire for you for insurance reasons as they of course need to ensure that you are eligible to drive on the road.
The other issue with this is that usually you would apply for an international driving licence, just like anyone else. In China however they don’t allow you to apply for an international licence therefore there is a lack of options, hence us often getting asked particularly about Chinese licences.
Solution
We wouldn’t be who we are today with all our deals and offers if we couldn’t find solutions to issues like this would we? We realised that this was a real issue so we discussed it with some of the rental companies we are in contact with and one multinational supplier confirmed that if our customers have a Chinese licence they will be able to hire, however there are conditions, the document needs to be notarized.
What Does Notarized Mean?
A Notarized document means that it has been officially translated, when a document is translated by an official source it is market with a stamp or a seal which is an indicator that the signature on the document is legitimate. A notary watches you sign the document and then stamp near your signature to verify the translation is accurate; it is also enough proof that the rental companies need.
How To Get A Notarized Document In China?
Notarized documents are simply just signed translations, however you need to do this in front of a notarized person which you can find anywhere from the credit union, a financial institution, law officers, car dealers, check chasing shops an tax payers. There are several people that can notarize a document; you will be very surprised at how many.
