Car Hire with Apple Pay or another Digital Wallet?

Paying with a Digital Wallet or Apple Pay on your Smart Phone is something we all do in a daily basis, to the point that you might not even know where your actual physical payment card is, due to not having to use for some time, this is often a statement we hear from our customers. Normally payments via your Smart Phone tend to be smaller amounts, such as shopping or paying for petrol.

Some retailers do still limit the spend to a maximum of £100, but slowly more and more retailers are allowing larger purchases to be also paid via Apple Pay /Digital Wallet Payment Cards.

Most rental suppliers will not accept payment for Car Rental via this payment method, and still request you have the actual payment card and be able to enter the Pin Number to authorise the payment for both the rental fee and also the required security deposit.

Here at Indigo we always like to be one step ahead, this is why we have secured a deal for UK and European Countries such as France, Germany, Spain, Netherlands where payment via your Digital Wallet will be accepted.

How Do I Make a Car Hire Booking If I Only Have Apple Pay Or Digital Wallet?

Ok, here are instructions which are pretty simple. First of all, do not place the booking via our online booking engine, reason we advise not to do this is to avoid you selecting a supplier that does not accept Apple Pay / Digital Wallet Payments. Please contact our reservations team and make sure when you enquire you advise of your payment method, we can then quote with a suitable supplier and get you on your way.

Indigo saved our trip!!

We were in Ireland and the car rental we originally booked required a $5000 deposit! (we were renting two cars) We were planning to go to remote locations and trains and buses would not have worked for us. Do I need to pass a credit check if using my debit card to hire?

If renting a car in the UK and you are a UK resident most of the large multinational suppliers will carry out an electronic address check to ensure you have strong enough links to the address provided. However most of the suppliers with the exception of 1 or 2, still carry out the same checks so not unique to when you need to hire via a debit card. Key indicator are if you are named on the Electoral Register and named on the council tax bill.

When renting a car overseas as an inbound client our suppliers do not carry out any checks.

Do I need to leave a deposit if hiring with a debit card?

Most suppliers do require a security deposit when renting a car, in the UK we have a range of options. The best value suppliers would request a £200.00 – £300.00 deposit. However we do have selected locations where our supplier does not require any deposit, so a full zero deposit.

In Europe we have options where you can just leave a fuel deposit of 110 EUR, and there is no mandatory requirement to take the Super Cover as this can be the case with some of the smaller budget suppliers.
