Although good news there are some restrictions that come with the types of debit cards can be accepted as per the terms and conditions organised with the rental company suppliers. If your cards don’t meet the restrictions then don’t worry you may still be able to hire but you will need to contact our reservations team and tell them all the details of what card you have and they’ll tell you if something can or can’t be arranged.

However with hiring with a debit card you may be required to take additional insurance/excess relax cover. This depends completely on your supplier chosen and whether you want these or not but what they basically mean is if you where to get into an accident in the hired car then you would be completely covered and no money would leave your wallet in the unlikely event.

Excellent service and courteous and helpful reps

I had a complicated one way booking with a debit card, which they handled very easily and professionally. Then, I had to modify and then cancel one of the cars I had booked because of a medical emergency at the last minute, but they were amazing and didn't require any cancellation fee! Thank you Indigo!!!

I did not regret contacting Indigo about Car rental services. Car Booking in Scotland

I now live in Australia but travel back to Scotland, my home every year I can, which means hiring a car each time. Very helpful staff, Good quality vehicle and a very easy to use process. Only very small criticism was finding the shuttle bus, a phone call is required to find out you need to go to Zone 18, there are signposts telling you the direction to Zone 18 but no actual signs showing where Zone 18 actually is, but even with this very small detail it was a relatively easy process start to finish

Do I need to pass a credit check if using my debit card to hire?

If renting a car in the UK and you are a UK resident most of the large multinational suppliers will carry out an electronic address check to ensure you have strong enough links to the address provided. However most of the suppliers with the exception of 1 or 2, still carry out the same checks so not unique to when you need to hire via a debit card. Key indicator are if you are named on the Electoral Register and named on the council tax bill.

When renting a car overseas as an inbound client our suppliers do not carry out any checks.

Do I need to leave a deposit if hiring with a debit card?

Most suppliers do require a security deposit when renting a car, in the UK we have a range of options. The best value suppliers would request a £200.00 – £300.00 deposit. However we do have selected locations where our supplier does not require any deposit, so a full zero deposit.

In Europe we have options where you can just leave a fuel deposit of 110 EUR, and there is no mandatory requirement to take the Super Cover as this can be the case with some of the smaller budget suppliers.
