A lovely coastal region which is located on the North Eastern side of Spain. Popular with many UK and French tourists it’s the full package when it comes to having a holiday there. A great summer climate, excellent beaches and great prices have made many flock to the Costa Brava as everything about it is appealing. The popular seaside resorts are Blanes, Tossa de Mar and Lloret de Mar amongst several others, Costa Brava used to mostly consist of fishing villages but now is one of the biggest holiday hotspots in the world.

The name Costa Brava was given to the location by Ferran Agullo who published an article in the newspaper La Veu de Catalunya back in 1908. The English translation for Costa Brava means Coast Wild or Wild Coast, which is in referral to the landscape on the Mediterranean coast which runs from the river Tordera to Banyuls. The term and eventual name Costa Brava wasn’t officially recognized until the 1960s when it was deemed suitable to use to promote tourism and when it became more popular than its suggested alternatives such as Costa Grega (Greek Coast), Costa del Corall (Coral Coast) and Costes de Llevant (Levant Coasts) amongst other names.

Costa Brava has three counties located within which are Selva, Baix Emporda, Alt Emporda. It also has several rivers, Muga, Fluvia, Ter, Tordera and there are also a large amount of amazing beaches which are great for relaxing on your holiday.

The warm romantic and gorgeous coasts are only a two hour flight from Britain and its well worth the visit. There are tons of independent hotels and amazing food to aid your holiday, a little fact is that the Costa Brava has one of the highest percent of Michelin Starred chefs across the whole of Spain. There’s not a day of the year that Costa Brava isn’t warm enough to dip your feet in the ocean water, besides the ocean and beaches mentioned there is also world-class golf courses, great shops and other fun activities like snorkelling, sailing and diving.
