Debit cards seem to suit our life styles better the days, however when it comes to travelling and especially when renting a car most suppliers only accept credit cards as a form of payment. Some of us do not like using credit cards because the debt and interest rates can easily add up, so the more cautious option is to use a visa debit card.

We at Indigo realise this, and we worked hard talking to and visiting suppliers at Munich Airport in the hope that we would be able to offer car hire Munich Airport with a debit card and yes, we did it. We did this to be able to offer our customers more payment options to suit their needs.

Some suppliers that accept payment via debit card will require you to take out additional insurance which is in case the vehicle is damaged while in your possession, this means you will have a zero excess which isn’t a bad thing as you won’t be liable for the damage or have to pay out in the unlikely event of an accident.

Car Hire Munich

I recently hired a car through Indigo and your partner in Munich, Enterprise Rent a Car. The service I received was excellent the original car I was given had a fault which caused a constant beeping noise and they quickly changed and upgraded the car for me. The end to end service from Indigo couldn't have been better and I would certainly recommend them and would happily use Indigo again when I am looking for a hire car in Europe in particular as I don't use a Credit Card which a lot of the Hire companies ask for as standard.

The best car hire experience

I was struggling to hire a car for my holiday in Northern Ireland with just a debit card. I tried Indigo car hire. They were very prompt in responding to my email. After a few emails & sorting out what I required, a booking was made. I got back from my week holiday last night & everything was better than I could have expected. Do I need to pass a credit check if using my debit card to hire?

If renting a car in the UK and you are a UK resident most of the large multinational suppliers will carry out an electronic address check to ensure you have strong enough links to the address provided. However most of the suppliers with the exception of 1 or 2, still carry out the same checks so not unique to when you need to hire via a debit card. Key indicator are if you are named on the Electoral Register and named on the council tax bill.

When renting a car overseas as an inbound client our suppliers do not carry out any checks.

Do I need to leave a deposit if hiring with a debit card?

Most suppliers do require a security deposit when renting a car, in the UK we have a range of options. The best value suppliers would request a £200.00 – £300.00 deposit. However we do have selected locations where our supplier does not require any deposit, so a full zero deposit.

In Europe we have options where you can just leave a fuel deposit of 110 EUR, and there is no mandatory requirement to take the Super Cover as this can be the case with some of the smaller budget suppliers.
