Khon Kaen Airport is situated around 5 miles from city of Khon Kaen. Upgraded to an international airport in 2005 with the opening of a brand new terminal. Although it only has one jet bridge passenger numbers seem to be increasing year to year. The departures hall is located on the second floor which also houses some small shops selling food and gifts, while the arrivals hall is on the first floor as well as a foreign-exchange kiosk. There is a small restaurant on the third floor.

Kan Air, Nok Air, Thai AirAsia, Thai Airways, and Thai Smile use the airport. The destinations served are Chiang Mai, Bangkok-Don Mueang, and Bangkok-Suvarnabhumi. You can collect your rental car in the arrivals area.

Khon Kaen is part of what is known as the “Big 4 of Isan”. Making up the 4 are Udon Thani, Sakon Nakhon, and Ubon Ratchathani. Khon Kaen is the capital of obviously named Khon Kaen Province and the Khon Kaen District. There is lost to discover in Khon Kaen and the surrounding areas, some noteworthy Buddhist temples like Wat Nongwang which is located south of the city. East of the Friendship Highway, you can enjoy a range of outdoor attractions at Lake Bueng Kaen Nakhon. Khon Kaen National Museum houses a wide range of antiques, precious art pieces, and archaeological finds from the region – some of them dating back to the prehistoric era.

Do I need to pass a credit check if using my debit card to hire?

If renting a car in the UK and you are a UK resident most of the large multinational suppliers will carry out an electronic address check to ensure you have strong enough links to the address provided. However most of the suppliers with the exception of 1 or 2, still carry out the same checks so not unique to when you need to hire via a debit card. Key indicator are if you are named on the Electoral Register and named on the council tax bill.

When renting a car overseas as an inbound client our suppliers do not carry out any checks.

Do I need to leave a deposit if hiring with a debit card?

Most suppliers do require a security deposit when renting a car, in the UK we have a range of options. The best value suppliers would request a £200.00 – £300.00 deposit. However we do have selected locations where our supplier does not require any deposit, so a full zero deposit.

In Europe we have options where you can just leave a fuel deposit of 110 EUR, and there is no mandatory requirement to take the Super Cover as this can be the case with some of the smaller budget suppliers.
