About Paris Gare Montparnasse
One of six large Paris railway stations opened back in 1840 being completely rebuilt in 1969. The station is used for trains to the west and south west of France with some of the popular locations including Tours, Bordeaux, Rennes and Nantes. The station is also famous for one of its disasters, in 1895 a train derailed overrunning the buffer stop and 30 metres later crashing through a thick second story wall causing it to smash outside the station which was pictured and a replica is now displayed in Brazil, the accident was deemed to be caused by a faulty break.
