Top 5 Ski Holiday Locations In Europe

Skiing and snowboarding are part of a ski holiday in Europe nowadays. The rest of the holiday is made of snow covered mountain chalets, Alpine food, mulled wine, and the famous Après ski, the after party & Night life.

Below is a list of the top 5 ski locations in Europe that offer more than just fun on the slopes.

st. Moritz, switzerland

#5 in our Top 5 Ski Locations In Europe, is St. Moritz. A city that has been the host The Winter Olympics twice can’t be bad for a ski holiday. Over 200 miles of slopes are waiting around St. Moritz starting from 5900 feet above sea level going all the way up to 10,800 feet with an all year round guarantee of good snow. And best of all, there are over 300 days of sunshine per year.

Away from the slopes St. Moritz has never had a shortage of those who enjoy a good night out. Well known classic bars, new lounge bars and clubs with an international appeal make high season nights as bright as day in the Engadin. And the best thing of all, you can enjoy a club hopping evening without aching feet as many of the best spots in St. Moritz are within walking distance.

les Trois Vallées, france

#4 in our Top 5 Ski Locations In Europe is Les Trois Vallées, France. Technically not a ski resot, Les Trois Vallées is the largest combined ski region in the world, with over 350 miles of slopes and over 180 ski lifts meaning you can ski for the whole week without having to ski the same slope twice. And queues? Nope!

The biggest ski resort in the region is Val Thorens, which offers the most choice for accommodation. The other two large resorts are Meribel and Courchevel which are aimed at the wealthy and famous. The exclusive ‘Courchevel 1850’ village has 2 out of the 8 luxurious 6 star hotels, locally known as palaces in France.

All of the above means the night life here is epic, hangouts, bars and restaurants are all buzzing on an evening meaning you are truly spoiled for choice.

zermatt, switzerland

#3 in our Top 5 Ski Locations In Europe is Zermatt, Switzerland. While no ski resort in the Alps could ever be labelled ugly, by comparison, Zermatt is probably the most scenic. With amazing views of the famous Matterhorn mountain and a ban on cars in the main resot, the Alpine village really is a living post card. So instead of fighting through traffic and crowds, you can focus on breathing in that fresh alpine air and enjoy the peace.

During winter months, there are over 220 miles of ski slopes in Zermatt. And if you still want to hit the slopes in summer, the peak has 12 miles of skiing at the top even in the hottest months.

While among the quieter and more peaceful resorts through the day, the night life on Zermatt is great with plenty of places to try. It is known for having more night clubs than any of the other resorts in the Valais

chamonix, france

#2 in our Top 5 Ski Locations In Europe is Chamonix, France. If you are looking for steep black runs and adrenaline raising off piste skiing, head towards Chamonix and Mont Blanc. The highest (and most notorious mountain for adventure seekers) in Europe is Mont Blanc, so it’s neighbor Chamonix attracts the more experienced skier looking for a challenge.

Slopes at Chamonix go all the way up to and over 10,000 feet, so it is s a fantastic place ski holiday late in the year, which is when you will see plenty of people skiing (and sunbathing) in shorts & t-shirts. The 12 mile Vallee Blanche off piste route, infamous for its vertical drop of 8900 feet through some of the most wild terrain in France.

st. Anton, austria

#1 in our Top 5 Ski Locations In Europe is St. Anton, Austria. If après ski, Jägermeister, singing and dancing on the tables in your ski gear is what you are looking for, then head down to St. Anton, which attracts bit of a younger crowd because of the well earned reputation for after parties. There are plenty of bars and clubs in the village, but by far the best après ski is at the bars on the ski slopes themselves.

The main problem is choosing whether to go to Krazy Kanguruh for some shot fuelled madness or to Mooserwirt, where the party starts everyday at 3pm when the blinds close and ‘The Final Countdown’ starts blaring out of the speakers.

It isn’t however all just about partying; it is also home to 160 miles of slopes, many of which are suitable for beginners while still offering plenty of fun and challenges for more advanced skiers.
