ashford-in-the-water

The picture-perfect village boasts a magnificent 13th century church and is full of well-presented limestone houses. The wonderful greenery is separated by the river wye which flows through the village and can be crossed by the famed Sheepwash Bridge. No, it’s not just a funny name; the bridge got its name from when sheep were once washed here prior to shearing. Now, the bridge is visited by tourists and VisitEngland named it as the best location to play Poohsticks. You are spoilt for choice when it comes to eating and drinking, with a hotel/restaurant, 2 pubs and a classic English tea room. You can walk and cycle without the worry of traffic on the Monsal Trail which can be accessed from the village.

bakewell

This lively town is also set on the River Wye, the town is best known for Bakewell puddings which originate from here, hence the name. You should definitely visit and try one yourself, but that isn’t all Bakewell has to offer. With a wide range of shops, art galleries, hotels, restaurants, and cafés there is plenty to do if the weather is not on your side. If you want to be outside there are several riverside walks, as well as an impressive church which is just a glimpse into the town’s history and heritage that can be seen throughout Bakewell. The weekly market held in the town is also worth a visit and has a variety of different stalls to browse through.

edensor

This village was rebuilt in 1839 for the workers of Chatsworth estate; it is located in beautiful landscapes. Edensor is worth a visit even if you only drive through and admire the scenery and look in awe at Chatsworth house. Explore the inside and outside of the house and when you’re done there are several estate villages just a short drive away. Each village offers different churches, independent shops and a range of places to eat and drink. You can stay in one of the multiple holiday cottages or one of the amazing hotels in the area, including the Michelin-starred restaurant, Fischer’s Baslow Hall.

hartington

This picturesque village is set in the heart of the Dove Valley, the duck pond is the focal point of the village and adds to the beauty of the village. One of the most stunning buildings in the village is Hartington Hall, which now serves as the local Youth hostel (YHA). The building dates back to 1611 and over the years has hung on to a lot of its original character, making it one of the most popular

youth hostels in the Peak District. The location of the village means there is countless footpaths you can take to explore the surrounding landscapes and enjoy the outdoors. Make sure you don’t miss the renowned cheese shop with its award-winning Stilton.
