New Pothole App

If you live in England you will know that potholes are a serious issue, they damage your vehicle if you are a driver, are dangerous for cyclists and potentially even life threatening for motorcyclists. There have been many petitions and pleas for councils especially of small rural towns to get these fixed and there has been for years, finally government funded has pointed somewhat in a positive direction for road users as they have put money into funding a smartphone app.

The government have handed over £30,000 to the Cyclists Touring Club which in comparison to some of the things they fund is nothing. This money is to improve the website, Fill That Hole and also produce a new quality app which will allow cyclists and road users alike to get onto the app with their mobile or whatever device it may be and report a pothole. This passes the information on to the local authorities. The app is to be launched in February and could reach more than 26 million cyclists, a strategic month to launch the product as the roads are at the worst in February due to the winter conditions.

Potholes need to be dealt with quickly as they are more than just a mild irritation, they can cause breakdowns, accidents, safety threats and just about every danger you can imagaine. The reason the councils have been so reluctant to correct the issue is down to the cost of patching them up, but it needs to happen. Local authorities have been provided with £3 billion in funding in England by the Government between 2011 and 2016 in order to fix the roads and repair the potholes, the good news is that they seem to be realising the issue and doing something about it to correct it, at last.
