New Driver Car Hire New Zealand

new Driver Car Hire New Zealand

Finding new driver car hire in New Zealand can be difficult, with many companies requiring your license to be at least a year old. Up until now, the absolute minimum period with our suppliers was 12 months. Thankfully though we’ve now arranged a new partnership with our suppliers that reduces this to just a single day. So now as long as you have the physical photocard we can help you, even if you passed yesterday!

Here is a quick pocket guide below for use when driving in New Zealand, useful for any inbound hirers that have only just passed.

Side of the road? Drive on the left-hand side.
Miles or km? KM.
Min renting and driving age? 21 for renting and 17 for driving,
Road tolls? Only 3 main toll roads and can be paid online.
Speed limit? 110kph for motorways and 50kph in urban areas.
Documents needed? Licence and passport though may also need proofs of address if living locally.
Emergency number? 111.
Currency? NZD $.

For more in-depth knowledge, I’d recommend clicking here for a lot of good info, especially useful if you’ve recently passed and not very confident yet, or just not used to driving in a different country.

where Can I Hire From?

Here is a list of all the locations we have for new drivers currently, it includes most of the major airports:

  • Auckland Airport
  • Auckland City
  • Christchurch Airport
  • Queenstown Airport
  • Wellington Airport

We have pickup locations in the major cities across both islands, so hopefully should have somewhere convenient for you! We also allow you to take the cars one-way across the island, but please let us know beforehand if you need to do this.
