Car Hire with a New Licence in Romania
Picture this – you’ve just obtained your driver’s license, and the open road beckons with promises of adventure… That is, until you discover the difficulties of renting a vehicle as a new driver!
Renting a car with a new licence is a challenging endeavour at the best of times, and that’s certainly no different in Romania, with almost all suppliers there requiring at least a year’s driving experience. Fortunately though at Indigo this is no longer the case – we’ve successfully arranged a new deal that enables you to rent a car without any prior experience on your license! So whether you’re planning a weekend city break in Bucharest or flying into Brasov to explore the famous Bran Castle, we’ve got you covered!
What are the requirements and restrictions?
Requirements are actually very lax for our new driver option in Romania, drivers just need to be over the age of 18 and have the physical photocard licence in hand. We cannot rent with just the pass certificate unfortunately, but past that there is no minimum experience required whatsoever. For payment we can accept both debit and credit cards as well, for rental cost and deposit.
As for restrictions, the only constraint is the size of vehicle you can reserve. With a new license, your options are limited to smaller car groups like mini and economy. However, all other conditions, including insurance, optional features, and cross-border arrangements, remain unchanged.

Please note that these options cannot be booked online, it’s a specialist option we have there with specific suppliers, so please contact us directly for it so we can ensure you are with the right option.
