Have You Considered How Reliable Your Tyres Are?

Have you ever really thought about how safe your tyres are? Generally when people purchase tyres the two main factors which are taken into consideration are price and brand. With over 150 different companies that currently offer tyres for our vehicles it can often be difficult to keep up with which tyres are the best option for you. As of today the new European labeling regulations come into action which can make you to drive, safer, quieter and more economical.

With driving sometimes being a hazardous affair, safety is always of high priority. With items in the car there to assist us in a time of need including airbags, roll cages and anti-lock brakes, the most important thing which is often overlooked are the tyres on the car.

When you actually think about it the tyres on the car are the only thing separating you and the road, so the upkeep of your tyres is imperative. With the new European regulations there are three main factors which are being taken into account, the safety, the noise pollution and how economical they are.

Safety

When driving your car, your stopping distance can often be dramatically increased by having basic or part worn tyres. The BBC offered a demonstration on their breakfast news show this morning. They put two identical cars, one with basic tyres and one with premium tyres, on a wet surface and they set off so they were driving at the same speed when the brakes of both vehicles were slammed on.

The car with the premium tyres stopped at least ten car lengths before the car with the basic tyres. This kind of information could save lives. Quentin Wilson was quoted this morning stating, “You do get what you pay for with tyres so it is better to avoid the basic tyres and spend that little bit more on your tyres as it can dramatically improve the safety rating of your vehicle and the safety of the people inside your car.

Saving Money

Often with times across the UK and the world being quite difficult financially, finding a way to save money in all areas is always a good trait to have. Well with the new European ruling the new labeling system provides a guide to how economical the tyres are. This is rated on an A – G grade, much like you would find on your refrigerator or washing machine. Grade A, being the most economical and Grade G being the least.

Not many people think of it this way however when it comes down to it tyres can save you money on fuel. If you have poor quality tyres this can increase the amount of fuel that you use as the tyres have to work harder which makes your fuel economy drop right down.

Although the initial outlay for a decent set of tyres may be a little high, it is most certainly worth the money as you will save the money you have paid in fuel alone.

Keeping Quiet

When you drive along it is a common misconception that the noise generated by the vehicle is coming from the engine, when in fact it is the tyres that create the most noise. With the new European labeling system you can purchase tyres which are much quieter and offer less noise pollution.

Often tyre companies have made just as much, if not more profits from poor quality tyres as they have from their premium tyres. Let’s stamp this out and save ourselves a bit of money and make sure that we’re all as safe as we can be when driving our cars.
