Dangers Of Falling Asleep Behind The Wheel

Falling asleep behind the wheel is a common occurrence unfortunately and can result in major accidents and even fatalities. A further warning comes after a viral video released on the internet shows a 71 year old driver falling asleep with a large amount of traffic going in his direction, the car hits a tree in the right embankment and flips into oncoming traffic where the rear end of the car goes into an oncoming cars windscreen. Thankfully and surprisingly both passengers of both the cars only sustained minor injuries, miraculously.

This incident just further highlights the danger of falling asleep behind the wheel, the government in the UK have tried to step up their efforts in making people aware of the danger especially targeting lorry and truck drivers since they drive late and night and for long periods of time.

Top Tips For Staying Awake
1- Take a break, have a stretch. This is a given and you may think silly to put in but take a break and stretch off and get the blood flowing round your body again rather than just be sitting in one position at all times.
2- Drink an energy drink, it helps but only for a short period of time, itll keep you awake for 30 mins – 1 hour whilst driving.
3- Listen to loud music, you will be surprised at how much this can help, loud music makes it hard to fall asleep. Another thing that really helps is singing along because it makes your brain have to think.
4- Put the temperature in your car cooler than you would usually like it, don’t make it too cold however. This works because it makes your body adapt to the temperature which keeps you active.
5- Eat something! Eat whilst driving quite slowly and it will keep you moving and active every little thing helps.
