Cheap Car Rental, Read the Terms & Conditions!

We have recently had an influx in customers that have been previously been stung by other companies and their hidden policies. Some cheap car rental options really are too good to be true.
We work with hundreds of suppliers and are provided with extremely cheap rates from time to time. These rates always come with pages of terms with stipulations such as hire lengths, time of year and minimum notice periods.

Take for instance Spain, Torrevieja in the Valencian Community you can rent a car for an extremely low price of around £52 per week at the moment, which is a daily rate of approximately £7.51. This rate would be for a small 2/4 door car with 4 seats, which is a very low price for that particular type of car and area.

This is a massively low price until you consider the charge for fuel within this suppliers terms. Their policy is ‘Full To Empty’ meaning when you arrive you will have to pay for a tank of fuel at a price which is usually over the cost at the pump, which could be between €60 and €100+. They will then expect you to return the vehicle empty.

This is where you want to be careful that you don’t run out of fuel on your way to the airport so you leave an amount of fuel in the car rather than running it empty making the car hire company profit as you bought fuel that you may not of needed to use. This can sometimes add a fair amount on top of the fee you were expecting when you originally went to hire your car.

Another policy you must be aware of is mileage as it may not always be unlimited as you were expecting. It’s always good to find out if the mileage is limited or not and what it is limited to, because if you go over your given miles you may be facing an extra cost that you didn’t expect. Often many cars that you hire have a limited mileage you can do during the time that you have the car, this differs through rental companies so it’s always good to know exactly the amount of miles you can drive.

At Indigo will inform you about all of these potential costs and details that you may not be aware of, however it’s always good to read the rental terms and conditions as a fee you may not have been expecting could be charged which often causes an inconvenience more than anything. In particular when hiring a car look at the two policies of mileage limitations and fuel policies.
Don’t just tick the box without reading deeper into it, or better yet pick up the phone and call the experts. We will make sure you are aware of everything before you commit.

Having worked in the car rental industry for over 15 years, he really knows his stuff. Rob heads up our marketing department and as a keen traveller, always has a new location to talk about. Particularly if there is a golf course nearby.
