What Is Car Hire Insurance Excess?

The insurance excess is the maximum amount you would be liable for in the event of your rental vehicle being damaged. The excess amount of a vehicle depends upon the supplier and the type of vehicle you want to hire. Please ask one of our agents for more details. It can generally vary from between £500.00 to £3000.00 depending on what category of vehicle you require.

                Can I reduce my excess?

You can cover yourself in relation to getting coverage for you excess and liability on the hire vehicle/ You have two options for this; Excess Reduction and Excess Reimbursement.

What is the difference between excess reduction and excess reimbursement?

Excess reduction reduces your excess down to a certain amount and means your reduce your liability. Excess reimbursement means you still have an excess and have to pay in the event of the vehicle being damaged, however you are reimbursed for this through the policy.

                What is excess reduction?

Excess reduction is taken out directly with a supplier and means that you reduce your maximum liability down to a certain amount. This generally costs between £10.00 and £30.00 per day depending on the supplier and vehicle selected.

                What is excess reimbursement?

Excess reimbursement means you still have an excess on a vehicle, however in the event of the vehicle being damaged, you would pay the supplier the estimated costs to repair the vehicle, and be reimbursed fully for the costs by making a claim with one of our team.

Can I get a zero excess?

This is possible; however we only offer this at selected locations so contact us directly to find out the options.

Do I need to pass a credit check if using my debit card to hire?

If renting a car in the UK and you are a UK resident most of the large multinational suppliers will carry out an electronic address check to ensure you have strong enough links to the address provided. However most of the suppliers with the exception of 1 or 2, still carry out the same checks so not unique to when you need to hire via a debit card. Key indicator are if you are named on the Electoral Register and named on the council tax bill.

When renting a car overseas as an inbound client our suppliers do not carry out any checks.

Do I need to leave a deposit if hiring with a debit card?

Most suppliers do require a security deposit when renting a car, in the UK we have a range of options. The best value suppliers would request a £200.00 – £300.00 deposit. However we do have selected locations where our supplier does not require any deposit, so a full zero deposit.

In Europe we have options where you can just leave a fuel deposit of 110 EUR, and there is no mandatory requirement to take the Super Cover as this can be the case with some of the smaller budget suppliers.
