                Car Hire San Sebastian Airport

San Sebastian airport despite its name is located in the municipality of Hondarribia and has a unique runway that stretches like a spit of land along the river Bidasoa which is right on the border between Spain and France. The airport currently only has two destinations within Spain which are both to major airports Madrid and Barcelona however there is a scheme in place to lengthen the runway which will allow larger aircraft to fly to and from the airport hopefully improving the amount of routes and passengers however these plans are fairly opposed due to economic difficulty making the future of the airport still quite uncertain.

The airport is of course the airport that serves San Sebastian a coastal city that lies on the bay of Biscay just a few miles from the French border. The area is a quite common destination for tourists which is one of its main industries it’s also popular for international events such as their international film festival and it will be named the European Capital of Culture in 2016. The area is also a popular beach resort with its picturesque coastline.

When Should I Travel To San Sebastian?
San Sebastian is great all year round due to its historic monuments and great events and art but there is one particular day that stands out from the rest. Every year on the 20th January the feast of Saint Sebastian takes place and it’s called the San Sebastian day, at the peak of midnight the mayor raised the flags and the entire 24 hours are echoed by the sound of drums, the adults dress as cooks and soldiers and march around the city through the night with the white hats and aprons amongst several other traditional actions, it’s truly spectacular and is worth visiting.

Do I need to pass a credit check if using my debit card to hire?

If renting a car in the UK and you are a UK resident most of the large multinational suppliers will carry out an electronic address check to ensure you have strong enough links to the address provided. However most of the suppliers with the exception of 1 or 2, still carry out the same checks so not unique to when you need to hire via a debit card. Key indicator are if you are named on the Electoral Register and named on the council tax bill.

When renting a car overseas as an inbound client our suppliers do not carry out any checks.

Do I need to leave a deposit if hiring with a debit card?

Most suppliers do require a security deposit when renting a car, in the UK we have a range of options. The best value suppliers would request a £200.00 – £300.00 deposit. However we do have selected locations where our supplier does not require any deposit, so a full zero deposit.

In Europe we have options where you can just leave a fuel deposit of 110 EUR, and there is no mandatory requirement to take the Super Cover as this can be the case with some of the smaller budget suppliers.
