                Payment Methods

When it comes to hiring a vehicle paying for it can often be a little confusing as some suppliers will only accept credit cards for payment. For more information on what type of payments we are able to accept, please see below.

Can I pay with a debit card?

Depending on the location and the debit card that you hold, it may be possible to pay for a vehicle using your debit card. If you do need to hire a vehicle and only have a debit card, then please contact us directly to find out the options available to you.

Can I pay with a credit card?

All suppliers will accept a credit card for payment, as long as the card is in the main drivers name and there are enough funds on the card for payments. There are no additional fees for the use of a credit card.

Can I pay with a Visa Electron card?

If you want to hire in the UK with a Visa Electron card then we may be able to help. The numbers on your electron card must be raised up and the card must be in the driver’s name. If you want to hire overseas then we cannot accept this type of payment card. If you do hold a Visa Electron card then please contact us directly to see if we can accept this type of payment card.

Can I pay with an American Express card?

Depending on the location that you are wanting to hire a vehicle from, we may be able to help if you want to pay for a hire vehicle using an American Express card. Please speak to us directly to find out the options.

Can I pay with a Visa Debit card?

If you hold a Visa Debit card and the numbers on the debit card are raised up, then we may be able to help if you want to pay with this type of debit card. This depends on the location and you must contact us directly if you want to hire a vehicle using a Visa Debit card.

Can I pay with a Maestro card?

We currently work with 2 suppliers that are able to accept Maestro cards. This depends on the location from which you want to hire a vehicle and the card must have a long card number to be eligible. Also, if the card is a prepaid card, we will not be able to accept it. If you hold a Maestro card and need to hire a vehicle then please contact Indigo directly as this is not available on our website.

Can I pay with a Mastercard debit card?

It may be possible to pay for a vehicle with this type of card due to the wide variations of MasterCard’s. As long as the numbers on the card are raised up and it clearly states the words MasterCard Debit on the card then this may not be a problem however it is always advisable to contact us directly to see if we are able to accept your payment card. This depends on which location you want a vehicle from and is only available if you contact us directly.

                Do you accept cash?

We are unable to accept cash for any payments towards a hire vehicle; all payments must be made on the main driver’s payment card as using cash does not leave a paper trail and can cause a lot of disputes in relation to whether payments have been made or not. So cash payments are not accepted for car hire in any instance..

Can I pay on one card and pay for the deposit on another?

Most suppliers ask for all payments to be made on the same payment card all the way through from booking the vehicle to collecting it. If you need to hire a vehicle and need to use 2 payment cards, then contact us directly as we may be able to help depending upon the location from which you are wanting to hire a vehicle, and what payment cards you are wanting to use.

Can someone else pay for my vehicle?

Yes this can be an option depending on the terms of your hire including the location, the card held by the driver and the proximity to the rental date. Please follow this link for more information on third party payments.

Do I need to pass a credit check if using my debit card to hire?

If renting a car in the UK and you are a UK resident most of the large multinational suppliers will carry out an electronic address check to ensure you have strong enough links to the address provided. However most of the suppliers with the exception of 1 or 2, still carry out the same checks so not unique to when you need to hire via a debit card. Key indicator are if you are named on the Electoral Register and named on the council tax bill.

When renting a car overseas as an inbound client our suppliers do not carry out any checks.

Do I need to leave a deposit if hiring with a debit card?

Most suppliers do require a security deposit when renting a car, in the UK we have a range of options. The best value suppliers would request a £200.00 – £300.00 deposit. However we do have selected locations where our supplier does not require any deposit, so a full zero deposit.

In Europe we have options where you can just leave a fuel deposit of 110 EUR, and there is no mandatory requirement to take the Super Cover as this can be the case with some of the smaller budget suppliers.
