DO YOU NEED ZERO EXCESS INSURANCE / ARE YOU ALREADY COVERED

Postby Matt Carter » 07 May 2014, 02:53

In my experience people do find this a very helpful hint, many people whom travel from Australia and New Zeland (although not restricted to Australia and New Zeland) have stand along travel insurance, which covers them for a multitude of things, what people don’t realize that car hire excess is one of those things, therefore negating the need to take any additional insurance’s upon arrival (all of which are optional of course)
See below a good example of where we have been able to flag this up for people, remember always check your travel insurance to see if you are already covered, I would imagine it cost enough to fly to the other side of the world, without having to spend more on protecting your excess, if in doubt feel free to speak to any of our team :-)

‘As you are obviously aware of as per the below whenever you rent a car you have an excess / liability, and the excess with this company is £1000.00, they currently range from £750.00 – £1500.00 in the UK, so the £1000.00 sits in the middle, you can pay extra to the rental company to reduce your excess / liability to zero, but this is usually an expensive exercise, and there are others way of covering this excess, in my experience quite a few people whom are travelling from either Australia or New Zeland, have some type of cover in their own travel insurance, so I would suggest checking this in the first instance, if you are not I can offer a couple of options. Worth bearing in mind 65% of people do just run with the excess as it is’

Hi Matt,

Thanks ever so much for this – I really do appreciate all of the details you’ve clarified. I’ve checked our travel insurance policy and you are absolutely right – it does cover hire car excess up to $5000, so that’s great. And thank you for clarifying the driving licence situation and deposit’

Hi Matt, yes this is an interesting one.
How may people do you think actually read the terms of their policies before ticking the box to say that they have? Not me, but its a great money saving tip..

I have written a blog on it, have a read here, http://indigocarhire.co.uk/blog/car-hir ... all-print/

Let me know if you think we could expand it even more.
