Cross Border Car Hire PortugalCross Border Car Hire Portugal

Portugal is quite a small country located on the edge of Spain, with it being so close to Spain many people want to cross the border and enjoy the nearby cities. Now they can when they use Indigo Car Hire as we have arranged an offer which allows this with one of the supplying companies we work with.

There are two types of cross border hire that you can get which are both available with the same offers however the prices of the two differ. Method one is that you pick the car up in an airport within Portugal, drive to Spain and at the end of the holiday drive back to Portugal to return it, this is the cheaper option as you will only have a cross border fee. Alternatively, you can drop off the car in another country, which costs slightly more as there is a one way fee.

                Travel Restrictions

Typically, you can collect a vehicle in Portugal and drive through Austria, Germany, Hungary, Slovakia, Italy, Croatia, Slovenia, Switzerland, Liechtenstein, France, Spain, Uk, Andorra, Monaco, Luxembourg, Belgium, Netherlands, Denmark, Ireland, Czech Republic, Norway, Finland, Sweden and Poland without a problem, as long as you make us aware of your requirements when booking. This ensures we can choose a supplier who can offer what you require.

Countries that are not listed above are not impossible but can be harder to arrange, please contact our team regarding your cross border needs today.

                Cross Border Rental Charges

A lot of suppliers will charge a fee for cross border car hire, this can start from as small as just €10 for the additional insurance and paperwork. But, do be aware this can get more expensive as the prices depends on which countries you want to visit.

Please be aware that some suppliers also have a minimum charge, extra taxes and they all require you to make them aware prior to the rental or it can invalidate your insurance. That being said, if you come to us directly and tell us your intentions then we will find you the best overall price of the rental.

Other Car Hire Offers in Portugal

When you want to hire a car and are going cross border then we do have some offers that you can take full advantage of. We have always aimed at arranging offers that make car hire more available to a wider audience of people, some of the best deals we have organised include…

                No Deposit Car Hire
When hiring a car you usually would have flown into a nearby airport and be on holiday, all this really adds up in expenses. When on your holiday you want to have fun and spend the money you have saved however most the times car rental companies require a massive deposit on their cars ranging from 500-5000 euros. Here at Indigo Car Hire we have organised a deal that means we can hire out our cars with a zero deposit.

                Young Driver Car Hire
If you are under the age of 25 you will find it extremely hard to get your hands on a vehicle as most rental companies require you are over this due to insurance, especially if you are planning upon crossing a border. We have however managed to arrange a deal that means 21 year olds with one year driving experience can hire cars and also cross borders with them.

Car Hire Without a Credit Card

Matt was very helpful, professional, and accommodating. Highly reccommend Indigo Car Rental.

Do I need to pass a credit check if using my debit card to hire?

If renting a car in the UK and you are a UK resident most of the large multinational suppliers will carry out an electronic address check to ensure you have strong enough links to the address provided. However most of the suppliers with the exception of 1 or 2, still carry out the same checks so not unique to when you need to hire via a debit card. Key indicator are if you are named on the Electoral Register and named on the council tax bill.

When renting a car overseas as an inbound client our suppliers do not carry out any checks.

Do I need to leave a deposit if hiring with a debit card?

Most suppliers do require a security deposit when renting a car, in the UK we have a range of options. The best value suppliers would request a £200.00 – £300.00 deposit. However we do have selected locations where our supplier does not require any deposit, so a full zero deposit.

In Europe we have options where you can just leave a fuel deposit of 110 EUR, and there is no mandatory requirement to take the Super Cover as this can be the case with some of the smaller budget suppliers.
