Harrogate the home of flowers and beauty

Last weekend I got together with my friends and we had the idea to travel to a place we never been before in West Yorkshire. So we start researching the web for local attractions and we found out that nearby there is a small town famous for its beauty and its spa heritage. We were both intrigued and fascinated by the small town of Harrogate the home of flowers and beauty. So we started the preparations for our small journey.
When it comes to travelling in West Yorkshire there are plenty of possibilities: from public transportation system to car hire companies. Getting a car was very easy thanks to my colleagues from Indigo Car Hire and we’ve hit the road in short time.

With a cosmopolitan air, Harrogate is charming enough to steal at least a few days out of your vacation. Welcome to one of the UK’s most beautiful destinations! It’s a place where the old embraces the new, where festivals and traditional village shows blend with conferences and fancy events, bringing to town visitors all the year round. Harrogate Arts and Museums for example, have a fabulous summer events planned, with activities to suit all ages at the Royal Pump Room Museum and the Mercer Art Gallery.

Many come to see Harrogate’s fascinating shops in the Montpellier Quarter for antique treasures, high-end fashion, charming arts & crafts shops and bustling markets, others come to admire the splendid architecture or simply to relax in this “home of flowers and beauty”. Spring is a great time to visit when the flowers come into bloom and the Harrogate Flower Show brightens up the town. Lovers of local delicacies shouldn’t miss the Harrogate Specialty Food Show or the Great Yorkshire Show which take place every July, featuring food stalls, livestock and agriculture from around the region.

As I said, this characterful town is full of interesting attractions. The first thing to notice is that this place is alive! People are everywhere, both tourists and dwellers: on the streets, in the parks, at the beautiful restaurants and cafés or shops. They have plenty of things and places to see, Harrogate being one of Yorkshire’s most elegant destinations with handsome historic buildings and verdant gardens. It’s the perfect place to indulge in an antiques hunt or have lunch at the famous Betty’s tearoom, which was established in Harrogate in 1919, with queues still forming for their afternoon teas.

Discover the garden town of Harrogate and its fascinating spa heritage! You can have a picnic in the floral Valley Gardens or you should visit the luxurious Turkish baths. Harrogate is actually known as the historic spa town in North Yorkshire. It grew from a small village in the 1500’s when a spring at Tewitt Well was discovered to be rich in minerals. It became a popular destination for the rich and famous of Yorkshire and continues till nowadays. So make some time for pure relaxation in steam rooms, pool and a freezing plunge pool for braver visitors.

You could manage until here without a car, because it’s easy to walk between all the sightseeing that Harrogate has to offer. But from now on, discovering the district would demand a car. If you’re a tourist, it’s very handy to rent one, because it would be a great loss to be in Harrogate and don’t step into Knaresborough or Nidderdale, too.

Harrogate District is a great experience for a family holiday or a short break, giving you so many reasons to enjoy and relax in the plenty of green open spaces, atmospheric cafés, fine restaurants and heritage from the cozy towns or would hide you away from the daily bustle in the charming countryside with its luscious meadows.
