News Flash Rumours About The New Car Hire Tax At Faro Airport

Lately, rumours about a new car hire tax at Faro Airport, Portugal appeared on internet and many of our clients worried about the situation.
Basically, on many forums, people started to talk about a 15 or 20 euros tax for every car rental in the Faro airport.

Our Car Hire Experts got in contact with the Portuguese airport Authority ANA and got this situation clarified for us.
A new set of regulations concerning the car hire companies without a permanent office in Faro airport was put in place.
ANA wished to make it clear that it does not currently charge an additional €15 for each car rented in its airports, nor will it do so in the future.

The new set of regulations are only for the companies which operate off the airport. This is part of the statement release by ANA (www.ana.pt):
“Starting on 1 March 2015, ANA Airports (including Faro) will officially introduce the new rules applicable to the way in which car rental companies that do not have a permanent office at the airport terminals conduct their business, and which will now be subject to the new regulations.

These new regulations establish equal and fair conditions for all companies (with or without a permanent office), with different rates being charged on the basis of the different business models. Right of access to Portuguese airports will be controlled and will be associated with a system of advance reservations.”

This regulations will not affect companies like: Avis, Europcar, Goldcar, Guerin and Hertz with the offices located in the airport terminals. ANA specified that: “Their business model will not change in any way”
