BMW i3 2p Per Mile

BMW have released the new i3 model in their normal way, inviting celebrities of course. Used to promote the £25,000 electric car was Sienna Miller and actor James Franco who turned up at Billingsgate to promote the new vehicle. BMW are branding this model as one of the most important in the company’s history which was released simultaneously in London, New York and Beijing but what is so special about it?

The new i3 model can only reach 93mph but the impressive part is that BMW are claiming that the cost to run it is 2p or even lower per mile! They claim that the battery from empty to fully charged only takes £2 which can drive over 100 miles. This is set to be the first new car in a new line of the I range vehicles, however images where leaked on the internet with details about the car a few weeks before its official release.

What else did BMW need to help the marketing of their product? More celebrities of course with Peaches Geldof and Donna Air also turning up to the launch. The event was so large scale it was screamed live in the UK as people eagerly await getting their hands on one this November for an approximate £25,680 with tax payers money reducing the cost by £5000, so if you pay taxes and aren’t interested in the BMW i3 your most likely paying for it anyway…

The interior of the car is lovely just like every BMW with nice leather seats a smooth interior with all the newest technology, the exterior however in my opinion is far from eye catching. In fact I would go as far as saying the exterior of this mean looking car is a bit of an eye sore it looks clumpy and put together a bit like the old Fiat Multipla. It does however have some cool gadgets, it keeps in touch with local traffic conditions alerting the driver, direct and finds the nearest charging points and even to things you may never need such a train times if you are driving on countryside roads.

On top of this there are more gadgets to show off such as a phone app which will guide you to your car if you somehow manage to lose it when you park, there is also a driving range assistant which works out if a destination is too far to travel without having to recharge and also a suggestion tool which suggests whether you should switch to a more economical driving mode. Another thing it takes account of are uphill climbs, stop start conditions in which it can calculate the energy it has left to get to the destination.

Although not having the highest top speed it gets 0-62mph in 7.2 seconds which is respectable for a car with such low emissions and such low cost per mile, in MPG it estimates around 425mpg although that just a rough figure. Another bonus is you can always escape the congestion fine in London, Bonus!

Having worked in the car rental industry for over 15 years, he really knows his stuff. Rob heads up our marketing department and as a keen traveller, always has a new location to talk about. Particularly if there is a golf course nearby.
